In June 2001, MGA Entertainment launched the Bratz series of dolls, a move that gave Barbie her first serious competition in the fashion doll market. In 2004, sales figures showed that Bratz dolls were outselling Barbie dolls in the United Kingdom, although Mattel maintained that in terms of the number of dolls, clothes & accessories sold, Barbie remained the leading brand.[61] In 2005 figures showed that sales of Barbie dolls had fallen by 30% in the United States, & by 18% worldwide, with much of the drop being attributed to the popularity of Bratz dolls.[62]

In December 2006, Mattel sued MGA Entertainment for $500 million, alleging that Bratz creator Carter Bryant was working for Mattel when they developed the idea for Bratz.[63] On July 17, 2008, a federal jury agreed that the Bratz line was created by Carter Bryant while they was working for Mattel & that MGA & its Chief Executive Officer Isaac Larian were liable for converting Mattel property for their own use & intentionally interfering with the contractual duties owed by Bryant to Mattel.[64] On August 26, the jury found that Mattel would must be paid $100 million in damages. On December three, 2008, U.S. District Judge Stephen Larson banned MGA from selling Bratz. They allowed the company to continue selling the dolls until the winter holiday season ended.[65][66] On appeal, a stay was granted by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; the Court also overturned the District Court's original ruling for Mattel, where MGA Entertainment was ordered to forfeit the whole Bratz brand.[67][68]

Mattel Inc. & MGA Entertainment Inc. returned to court on January 18, 2011 to renew their battle over who owns Bratz, which this time includes accusations from both companies that the other side stole trade secrets.[69] On April 21, 2011 a federal jury returned a verdict supporting MGA.[70] On August five, 2011 Mattel was also ordered to pay MGA $310 million for attorney fees, stealing trade secrets, & false claims than the $88.5 million issued in April.[71]

In August 2009, MGA introduced a range of dolls called Moxie Girlz, intended as a replacement for Bratz dolls.[72]

She's a successful businesswoman, a member of a rock band as well as a Women's World Cup Soccer player. Who is this superstar? It is none other than Barbie doll. This is the latest animation featuring the doll character Barbie. This time Barbie is in the role of Kristyn Farraday, an aspiring ballerina.

Kristyn (voice of Kelly Sheridan) is a hard-working young ballet dancer, but he is frustrated because the lead roles always go to Tara (Ali Liebert). While Kristyn is rehearsing for the showcase performance, Madame Natasha (Tabitha St Germaine) scolds her for not following instructions perfectly. This upsets Kristyn & makes her feel like a failure. Feeling mournful & needing new ballet shoes, Kristyn visits the wardrobe mistress, Madame Katarina (Lori Triolo), who gives her a pair of bright pink ballet shoes. When Kristyn puts on the new shoes, they transport her & her mate Hailey, (Katie Crown) the seamstress, to a fantasy land of classical ballet sets.

Kristyn finds herself dancing the parts of both Giselle & Odette from Swan Lake. Sheâ��s also pursued by Albrecht & Prince Siegfried, who both need to marry her. The evil Snow Queen (Tabitha St Germaine) & the evil Rothbart (Bill Mondy) are after her .

When Kristyn & Hailey finally return to reality, Kristyn has learned the importance of following your own heart, when it comes to dancing.

There’s been some outrage recently over the Mexico Barbie® Doll that Mattel released last year. I don’t understand what the big deal is. They’ve been doing international dolls for years now. The Dolls of the World series is not meant to represent examples of modern women in the now ubiquitous jeans and t-shirts now found around the world. Instead, I believe the series is focusing on culture and the traditional costumes from each country. I personally am thrilled to see a big company like Mattel preserving these beautiful and historical costumes that are rich in symbolism, meaning, and history.

And no, this is not the first Mexico doll they’ve produced, either. I remember buying one years ago at a Walmart. I was so thrilled to find one wearing one of the many traditional outfits from Mexico. I think it was the Cinco de Mayo Barbie. But I remember thinking, “FINALLY! Our culture and history is being appreciated!”

Part of the outrage seems to stem from the fact that Mexico Barbie comes with a passport. So? All of the dolls in this series come with passports – which I love. What does a passport have to do with immigration or being “legal?” For me, a passport is a symbol of international travel and global communication and relationships. Now, if she had come with a green card, THEN I think it would be offensive and worth shouting about!

When I go to Spain, I see dolls wearing flamenco dresses with matillas, mantones de Manilla, combs, and sometimes castanets. I don’t see that as being demeaning. Women don’t walk around Spain wearing those costumes every day. But in Spain, that is a way of preserving their culture and showing orgullo. Why don’t we let ourselves do the same?

I do have to say, though, that I’m not impressed by the chihuahua in Mexico Barbie’s arms. But after looking at all of the dolls, it looks like 2012 was the “give every doll an animal friend” year. I get it. Kids like animals. But I don’t assume that every Indian woman walks around with a monkey(!) on her arm, or that every Australian woman has a pet koala, or that every woman in Hawaii lugs around an endangered sea turtle.

I don’t like looking for things to get upset about. I think it is important for companies to recognize our culture and to make attempts to mainstream them with toys and other products. When I was a little girl, I would have loved to have owned a Barbie that actually looked like me and that wore one of the traditional costumes I would see twice a year at the 16 de septiembre or Cinco de Mayo events we attended and celebrated. I always thought the folklorico dancers were so beautiful, and I secretly longed for a dress like theirs.

We finally see a doll in cultural costume produced by a big company… and we’re complaining. They can’t win. I’d hate to see them discontinue the line, because these dolls are a great educational tool for teaching cultural studies and discussing history. We’ve already seen banned books and ethnic studies programs. Let’s not do the same to other cultural products. They’re so important for helping our children find pride in their heritage and its history. Why make our kids continue to feel ashamed? Boo.

In Toontown, a silhouette of Jessica is seen in a tall apartment building by Eddie. Then, when they is elevated by Droopy, they opens the door to Jessica's bedroom to see her inside with some underclothes. However, as Eddie's "mistake" turns around, the hair drops from her face to reveal Lena Hyena, so they runs towards Eddie together with her lips puckering for a kiss, but Eddie slams the door on her, and her lips impale it. After being tricked in to plummeting about 500 tales by Tweety Bird and two parachuting Toons (Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny), but both saved and kissed by Lena before they crashes in to the wall and knocks herself senseless, Eddie's been pointed at by a gun of Jessica, and a shadow of a gun pointing itself at Eddie from the other direction casts itself on the wall beside the private investigator. Then, they shoots, and the pistol falls from the shadow's hand. Now Eddie draws his own gun, holds her at gunpoint, and tells her to drop it. Dropping her pistol, Jessica claims that they saved his life, but Eddie claims that they doesn't trust someone or anything. Jessica shows Eddie Doom's gold pistol on the ground that turned Maroon in to a corpse, and the evil Judge squeezed the trigger. Also, they says they was on his tail to Maroon Cartoons, but they was late to cease him. Suddenly, who shall be heard by both her and Eddie but Judge Doom himself, screaming and jogging down the alleyway, and Eddie shoots thrice together with his Toon gun, but before the bullets reach Doom, the dark man disappears down a side alley. However, the bullets grind to a halt, then go the wrong way in lieu of the right to get Doom. Then, when Jessica drags Eddie to her automobile, they is shocked to see her automobile trunk open and empty and asks where Roger is. Eddie replies that Roger chickened out on him back at the studio, but Jessica honestly tells him that they struck her husband's head together with her frying pan and put him in the trunk, so they would not get killed. And Eddie says that it makes ideal sense. Jessica decides that they and Eddie will take his automobile.

However, Eddie points back down the road where swerving tire marks lead off in to the distance past burst fire hydrants and knocked-over lampposts, they states that he is got a feeling someone already did, and Jessica says from the looks of it, it was Roger who was seldom excellent behind the wheel which means a better lover than a driver. then, when they listen to a siren, Jessica warns Eddie that the Toon Patrol are on their way, and decides that they will take Gingerbread Lane. But when Eddie sticks out his thumb by accident, Benny the Cab appears from nowhere. The two hitch Benny and speed along the tunnel leaving Toontown. So Eddie demands how long Jessica's known it was Doom, and Jessica explains that Marvin confided in her that Doom desired to get his hands on Toontown and they would not cease at anything before the Toontown keeper was transformed in to a corpse by a large safe on his head, so they gave her his will for safe keeping, except when they opened the envelope, there was only a blank sheet of paper inside. And Eddie says, "Huh! A joker 'til the finish." So Benny impatiently asks them to know where he is taking them because his meter's walking, and Jessica tells him they has to find Roger because she is so worried about him seriously and tells Eddie that what they sees in her husband makes her laugh. As they leave the tunnel, Doom tips a barrel of Dip onto the road. Benny spins around on it, screaming in serious pain, and crashes in to a lampost, sending Eddie and Jessica flying to the ground. Now they are taunted by the bullyish Doom. When his weasels drive out of the tunnel and pull up next to their boss, they put their two captives in Doom's truck to the Acme factory.

Back at the Acme factory, Greasy, of Doom's five weasels, volunteers to frisk Jessica, rolls up his sleeve, and puts his hand inside Jessica's giant breast cleavage. However, there is a snapping sound, and Greasy quickly withdraws his hand with a bear trap on it, screaming in serious pain, causing the other four weasels to laugh, and Eddie says to Jessica, "Nice 'booby' trap." Doom whacks Greasy in to a pile of boxes spilling false eyes all over the floor and asks the his Toon minions that they and Eddie have the will or not, but Clever Ass, Doom's lieutenant, says that it is Roger's love letter. Doom says that it doesn't count. Then, they warns Eddie and Jessica that if the will won't exist in the next 15 minutes, Toontown will be legally his; lock, stock, and barrel.

A few years ago, author Peggy Orenstein sent her daughter Daisy off to preschool â�� and within a week, he noticed a profound change.

"She came home having memorized, as if by osmosis, all the names and gown colors of the Disney princesses," Orenstein tells NPR's Linda Wertheimer. Suddenly, Orenstein began noticing princess references in all places, surrounding her daughter.

"The waitress at our breakfast joint would hand her her pancakes and say, 'Here's your princess pancakes,'" Orenstein says. A pharmacist offered a pink balloon. The final straw came at Daisy's first dentist appointment. "The dentist asked, 'Would you like to get in my princess stool so I can sparkle your teeth?' And I thought, 'Oh my gosh, do you have a princess drill, ?'"

That obsession with everything pink and princess is the focus of Orenstein's new book, Cinderella Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from the Front Lines of the New Girlie-Girl Culture.

Orenstein says young children don't yet understand that your sex is fixed â�� that you cannot go to sleep a girl and wake up a boy. So small girls may be drawn to pink, sparkly princess gowns as a way of asserting that they are definitely girls.

But an overemphasis on pink can finally be harmful, Orenstein says. "Those small differences that are innate to girls and boys, if they are allowed to flourish by having children grow up in separate cultures, become sizable gaps.

"When your daughter is sitting there in her room, along with her pink princess dress and her pink Scrabble kit \.\. and her pink Magic 8-Ball, it makes those divisions a lot bigger as well as a lot harder to cross."
